Windows 7 operating system supports multiple user accounts creation, which can be assigned as either administrator or standard user account type, in addition to a guest account. However, after a user account is created, it’s only possible to be deleted or removed, and administrator cannot disable or deactivate the user account from within the Control Panel user interface.
Administrator may need to temporarily or permanently disable or deactivate a user account, without deleting or removing the user account completely from the system. In order to disable or deactivate user account, follow the following guide. Disabling a user account allows the account to be re-enable or re-activate in future, without loss of data.
1. Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools, and then open Computer Management.
Alternatively, right click on Computer in Start menu, and select Manage.
2. Expand Local Users and Groups branch.
3. Click on Users section.
4. Right click on the user to deactivate, and select Properties.
5. Select and tick the check box for Account is disabled option.
6. Click OK and close Computer Management window.
7. The user account is now disabled, and no longer can be used to log on.
Tip: Uncheck the Account is disabled option to re-enable the user.
Alternative method is to use command line syntax of “net user”. To disable and make a user account inactive, open an elevated command prompt with administrator rights, and type the following command:
net user “user name” /active:no
Replace user name with the actual user name of the account to disable. Note that user name with space in between must be enclosed with quotation mark (“).
To reactivate the account to active status, just use the following command, as similar to enable the built-in super administrator account in Windows 7 and Vista:
net user “user name” /active:yes
Microsoft today released the Open Sourced Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) under the GPLv2.
As we previously explained, the testing and localization took longer than we expected, but the project is now hosted on CodePlex.com, Microsoft’s Open Source software project hosting repository, and the code can be found here.
The tool can also now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store here.
Also, as a result of some necessary changes, while the user experience of the tool will be the same as before, the install involves additional steps.
Microsoft has released MUI (Multilingual User Interface) language packs for Windows 7 RTM. The Windows 7 language packs is available via Windows Update as optional update for Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions only.
According to Springboard Series blog, all language packs, except Traditional Chinese for Taiwan for Windows 7, for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions is now available for free download.
Windows 7 RTM x86 and x65 MUI language packs in DVD ISO format were leaked earlier from MSDN and TechNet Subscriber Downloads. User who prefers to download all language packs for Windows 7 via BitTorrent (BT), torrent is available for the MSND or TechNet DVD ISO versions.
Do take note that if too many additional language packs are installed, the disk space and system performance can be affected. In particular, disk space and system performance are affected during servicing operations, such as Service Pack installations, according to KB972813. Therefore, it’s recommended to only add a language pack to computer only if the language will be used.
Windows Update will always display all language packs that are available. Any unwanted language packs can be made hidden in Windows Update. To hide unwanted language packs in Windows Update, click on the Windows 7 Ultimate Language Packs category (to highlight and hide all remaining language packs) or click on and highlight individual language pack (to hide language packs one by one) in the Select the updates you want to install page, and then right-click the highlighted updates, and then select Hide update.

This document describes the privacy policy for Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange and Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint.
For Windows users who switch and upgrade from Windows Vista, one difference will be immediately noticeable when installing or upgrading to Windows 7, i.e. Install Windows 7 setup wizard no longer prompts or asks for user selection of which edition of the operating system to install. Instead, each Windows 7 DVD disc or Windows 7 ISO image will automatically install the preset specific edition which it’s confined to.
Although Microsoft does not provide an universal “one disc rules them all” Windows 7 installation media, however the function is indeed supported. User just need to delete and remove the ei.cfg from any Windows 7 ISO disc image to convert the image into universal disc of any edition Windows 7 installer.
For user who has the ISO image of Windows 7, and wish to make it an universal installer for any and all supported editions of Windows 7, as shown in illustration below, now has an easier way to modify the ISO. Instead of manually unpacking and extracting the content of ISO image (or copying files from DVD) to HDD, deleting the ei.cfg and then repacking or rebuilding installation files back into ISO to burn, user can now eliminate troublesome procedures by making use of “ei.cfg Removal Utility”.
The ei.cfg Removal Utility is a simple tool that will disable the ei.cfg from any Windows 7 ISO disc image, thereby converting the image into a “universal disc” that will prompt the user to select a preferred edition during setup. ei.cfg Removal Utility works directly to patch the ISO image, by toggling the deletion bit in the UDF file table to instruct the operating system to ignore and remove ei.cfg, or treat it as if it does not exist. Best of all, ei.cfg Removal Utility can reverse the patching to restore the ISO disc image to its original state when the tool is been used to apply on a disc image that previously been patched by the utility.
ei.cfg Removal Utility is a standalone portable app, and thus no installation required. In fact, the program does not have much user interface. After selecting the target Windows 7 ISO, the disc image will be patched right away. So make sure a copy of ISO backup is done.

Microsoft’s virtualization solution for Windows 7, Windows Virtual PC (VPC) and Windows XP Mode (XPM) final RTM builds have been compiled and signed off as build 7600.16393 on September 22nd, 2009.
Windows Virtual PC requires hardware-assisted virtualization, thus it’s recommended to check and verify system supports hardware virtualization (VT) or not prior to downloading and installing.

Hardware-Assisted Virtualization (HAV) Detection Tool Free Download
Microsoft has also released a application tool that able to detect status of Hardware-Assisted Virtualization (HAV) support on the computer system’s CPU microprocessor. Aptly named as Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool or simply as HAV Detection Tool, the utility can detect and check if the computer meets the processor requirements to run Windows Virtual PC, i.e. hardware-assisted virtualization.
Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) is another initiative by Microsoft to stem the piracy and counterfeit copy of Microsoft Office business producitivity suite and applications.
After installed, OGA validation component will perform a check on install Office software, and OGA Notifications notifier component will display various “This copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine” message if the Office software is determined as not genuine or not legitimate.
Although officially Microsoft prevents and disallows end-users from removing OGA Notifications (KB949810), there are several workarounds or hacks to remove Office Genuine Advantage Notifications. In fact, as it’s a MSI (Windows Installer) package which installed the OGA, the KB949810 OGA update can be removed and completely uninstalled properly and completely by using MSI uninstall string.
How to Uninstall Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810)
1. Open an command prompt window with elevated privileges.
2. Depending on the version of OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) installed (can be view from properties of %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\OGAAddin.dll or DEL %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\OGACheckControl.dll), run following commands below (see Tip below if you only want to run one command):

Note that the GUID identifier for OGA application may vary from system to system, depending on version and language installed. Generally, it works for OGA v1.7.0102.0, OGA v1.7.0105.35.0 and OGA v1.7.0105.35.0 v2.0.48.0.
Tip: To determine which is the exact application ID for Office Genuine Advantage installed on your system, run Registry Editor (RegEdit), and navigate to the following registry key:

There are many registry sub-keys that resembles the product ID above. Go into each and everyone of the registry sub-branches to look for and locate DisplayName REG_SZ value data which matches or similar to Office Genuine Advantage or OGA.
3. After uninstalling OGA properly, it’s wise to clean up and remove all trace of OGA from the system. Run the following commands to delete all registry entries and system files, if still present:

Product Key Card and Microsoft Office Starter 2010
For consumers who purchase a new PC, Microsoft is working with major PC manufacturers and our retail partners to make it simpler than ever to try and buy Office 2010.
Through our retail partners, Microsoft is introducing an all-new Product Key Card to help consumers more easily access and experience Office 2010 on new PCs that have been pre-loaded with Office 2010. The Product Key Card is a single license card (with no DVD media) that will be sold at major electronic retail outlets.
An added bonus: The card’s packaging is smaller than the full package (DVD) product, and is eco/retail-friendly. The key number contained on the card will unlock Office 2010 software that has been pre-loaded by the PC manufacturers on their PCs, and enables a simpler and faster path for consumers to begin using any one of three full versions of Microsoft Office – Office Home & Student 2010, Office Home & Business 2010, or Office Professional 2010.
As part of Office 2010 software that will be pre-loaded by the PC manufacturers on their PCs, we’re introducing Microsoft Office Starter 2010. Office Starter 2010 is a reduced-functionality, advertising-supported version of Office 2010, available exclusively on new PCs. Office Starter 2010 will provide new PC owners with immediate exposure to the Office 2010 experience on new PCs right out of the box.
Office Starter 2010 will include Office Word Starter 2010 and Office Excel Starter 2010, with the basic functionality for creating, viewing and editing documents. Office Starter 2010 will replace Microsoft Works, offering a consistent Office user experience, such as the Ribbon, with a simple path to upgrade to a fully-featured version of Office 2010 directly from within the product.
Click-To-Run technology for downloading trial and purchasing Office 2010
For people who want to try or buy Office 2010 on existing PCs, Microsoft is unveiling Click-to-Run, a new and enhanced download experience for consumers. Click-to-Run makes it easier than ever for customers to try or buy Office digitally by significantly reducing the time and effort required to download Office 2010 over the Internet. Click-to-Run automatically downloads and installs any software patches when connected to the Internet, helping people maintain and keep their Office software up-to-date. Click-to-Run uses virtualization technology so it allows customers to maintain multiple versions of Office. This enables them to try Office 2010 side-by-side with the existing version of Office.
We will have the broad beta of Office 2010 later this year and invite people to become familiar with Office 2010, in the way that works best for them, and then easily upgrade to a full version of Office Home and Student 2010, Office Home and Business 2010, or Office Professional 2010 when they’re ready to buy.
